About Me
I am a parent and substitute teacher at Sunol Glen School and I'm running for Sunol School Board. I grew up in the Midwest and as an adult, made the Bay Area my home. I have been active in Sunol Glen School for the past five years while my children are attending school there. Our family moved to the Sunol hills to enjoy nature and the solitude that rural Sunol has to offer. My education background is in English and Early Childhood Education. I work part time at Sunol Glen School as a Substitute Teacher and classroom aid. In the classroom, I’m privileged to connect with students and positively influence their education journey.
The programs for students at Sunol Glen School reflect my own interests. I’m an avid gardener of fruit and vegetables, as well as, flower gardens at my home. Volunteering at garden day each month at the school allows me the opportunity to share the benefits of gardening with students at the school who might not have the experience otherwise. I am also a musician who can be seen playing my guitar and singing at the school or around town. I often lead music and movement activities with the Sunol Preschool and Eagle’s Nest aftercare program. In December, I host Christmas caroling in the Sunol Depot Gardens, where anyone in Sunol can add their voice to our holiday chorus. My imagination has always been fueled by my love of reading. I share my passion for reading with my own children and our extensive home library and with others in the classroom supporting their reading efforts and reading aloud in the classroom. It’s very apparent that I am a social and talkative person. Relationship building has always been a priority for me and it is the foundation for all of my community building efforts.

Flood Recovery Workday at Sunol Glen School
I led sub-team to organize and deploy volunteers at the clean up workday to remove downed trees and other debris from the campus courtyard. I also bagged sand at the Little Brown Church with Sunol residents when there was still need of barriers for the threat of flooding to our neighbors on Kilkare.

4-H Pancake Breakfast
For the past two years, I've coordinated all the coffee served at the Sunol 4-H Pancake Breakfast fundraiser. Organized, brewed, and deployed teams of 4-H members to serve all participants. I also join forces with my two children to bake for the bake sale. Funds raised support 4-H projects to enrich local youth and encourage leadership.

Fundraising for Sunol Glen
I have led fundraising for the 4th Grade at Sunol Glen School to attend a gold rush overnight trip and learn about the history of California. This year I am coordinating fundraising for the 6th Grade week long science camp field trip. Annually, I donate, help raise funds, and volunteer for the school wide Sunol Glen Walk-a-thon on campus.

Volunteer in Student Classrooms
I have volunteered in Sunol Glen School Kindergarten/1st Grade classroom as a reading aid to offer our youngest students one-on-one practice and support as they learn to read. I also volunteer to read aloud to classrooms to share stories and inspire reading.
I bring my guitar to the classroom and lead music and movement activities for the Sunol Glen Preschool and the Eagle's Nest aftercare program. Watching children light up when they sing and dance along to the music is rewarding.
With three students at the school, there are many opportunities for me to organize holiday parties and celebrations in the classroom with students. I've prepared food, organized activities, and chaperoned school events like the Halloween parade and field day.

Volunteering in Dillon's Garden at Sunol Glen
Giving my time to our school garden is one of my favorite monthly events. I enjoy sharing my love of gardening with students at the school. Time in the garden encourages healthy eating and helps children practice patience as they watch the nature of growth.
In addition to volunteering in the garden, our family funded much needed repairs to the storage shed in the garden last year.

Community Communication
For the past two school years, I've attended the majority of the school board meetings and have prepared statements to speak to the school board as a representative of groups of parents from the school. I have also invested heavily in informing the Sunol community of the content of board meetings and decisions made by the school board.

Volunteer for the Sunol Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby
Our family hosted the Sunol Cub scouts at our home to cut and shape their pinewood derby cars with our tools and equipment. I asked an engineer I know to create a slideshow and teach the cub scouts about aerodynamics and their pinewood cars.

Chaperone School Field Trips
I value the learning that occurs when students are outside the classroom on field trips. Being a chaperone to our classrooms for field trips helps ensure safe and successful trips. My volunteerism allows children to experience science concepts in person and visit historical sites.

Hosting Christmas Caroling in Sunol
In December, I bring my guitar and my voice along with a stack of song books to share with anyone who wants to sing along and celebrate. I set up a hot drink station with hot chocolate, coffee, and tea to enjoy with an assortment of snacks and sweet treats. All of Sunol is welcome, see you there this year!
